The prominent lines appearing between my eyebrows had been betraying me for some time. I’ve always looked quite young for my age, but lately those pesky frown lines were getting the better of me. Having tried a multitude of lotions and potions, I decided it was time to get serious. It was time to freeze them in their tracks and follow in the footsteps of many celebrities before me.
Step off a sweltering train and into the urban escape that is Dr Jack’s swish clinic on Harley Street – you’ll feel calm from the moment you step inside. Admittedly, I was more than a little nervous to experience my first foray into the world of Botox. Dr Jack put me at ease immediately and made me feel completely calm about the entire thing. His positive energy and charisma are infectious. You almost feel as if you could trust him with your life savings – so trusting him with my frown lines? No problem!
Walk in to his clinic and you are in good hands. He explained away all my worries and my fear of ending up like Jay in Modern Family after his Botox dalliance. No such thing went on in Dr Jack’s stylish clinic. The University of Glasgow graduate was one of the top students in his class after all, graduating with MBChB as well as a first class honours degree in anatomy. He went on to become a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh after passing their post-graduate examinations. He later went on to train in plastic surgery in Scotland and London.
Dr Jack explained that you only ‘need’ Botox when you can see resting wrinkles on your face. That’s the lines that are still there when you aren’t making any facial expressions. Step into the treatment room and you’ll feel the tiniest of pricks as the needle goes in. As an injection phobe I can honestly tell you… it was nothing. A slight tingle at most, but the results are well worth it.
I felt like I finally looked like myself again. My skin calmer, my face smoother and without the ‘frozen’ look you may worry you’ll have after Botox. It was so subtle in fact, that no one really noticed I had it done. They just asked what foundation I was wearing, or if I was using new skin care products. Which by the way Dr Jack also does most excellently!
Dr Jack, carries out a number of treatments including anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, lip enhancement, platelet rich plasma, derma roller, hair loss treatment and vitamin infusions, as well specialist treatments including;
Dermaplaning/’Ancient Egyptian Facial’ – a treatment involving skin ‘shaving’ with a blade as a form of skin resurfacing – very popular in the Gulf/Iran since the time of Cleopatra.
Hand rejuvenation -involving a multi-layer approach to the ageing hands, tackling the skin changes (including hyperpigmentation and skin thinning) with a series of peels and or mesotherapy, and deeper interosseous volume loss with collagen stimulating fillers.
Non-surgical nose job – a quick filler treatment to straighten the nose for people with a dorsal hump who do not wish to have a full rhinoplasty. Quite spectacular results can be achieved with a very small volume of filler in a 15 minute treatment!
Vampire treatment for hair loss – we all have heard of the vampire facial/PRP – this treatment uses the same method for harvesting plasma from the patients own blood, containing platelets rich in growth factors. A small blood sample is taken and spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelet rich fraction.
Botox prices start at £190.
