If you look at any celebrity in any magazine, sure enough they will be wearing highlighter – promise. Blame, J-Lo, or even Posh spice, but ever since we all realized we would not only create cheekbones through contouring, but also highlight them, the deal was done, and a new make-up trend was created. For chipmunk cheek *ehm* blessed girls like me, this is a miracle. Really.
There are so many wonderful highlighters that are available to buy, it can be super difficult to know which product will be worth it’s price tag. These are my top four lovely highlighters!
First off highlighters should be applied above any bronzer on the highest part of the cheekbones. Even if you don’t think you have any cheekbones, you do. Feel around for bones, you’ll get there, and apply the highlighter on highest part of the cheekbones and around to the temples in a semi-circle shape.
Now for the top four;
- Bobbi Brown – Pink Quartz Shimmer Brick – This is a lovely subtle yet shimmery highlighter. It has a pink/ bronze tone and looks beautiful with a tan. Great for a natural glow, with some added color and shine.
- Mac – Mineralize Skin Finish in Landscape – Photographs simply don’t do this product justice. It’s so pretty – a swirl of pink, blue, yellow and green, yet sublimely subtle once applied to the skin. It has a silvery pink sheen that accentuates cheekbones perfectly. I like to use this on top of a cream highlighter for the double whammy effect.
- Nars – Illuminator in Copacabana – This is a creamy liquid like texture that is very silvery once applied to the skin. This is most definitely for the paler of skin tones. Once this dries it’s not the slightest bit sticky, but very pigmented. This would look great under highlighter powders on your cheekbones, or even applied to the shin’s of your legs to make them appear long and lean. FYI – this is very sparkly.
- Cosmetics a’la Carte – Bare Blush in Starlight – this product is a creamy, solid stick formula that is a peachy, pink toned highlighter. This is most definitely one of my favorites, and was actually my highlighter of choice for my wedding day. Creamy but not too liquified, yet also not so dry that it would highlight any dry patches on my skin rather than my cheekbones. Photographs wonderfully as well – just so you know!
Who said you had to go on a juice fast to get yourself razor sharp cheekbones?! Just haul ass to the beauty counter like me!
