Poolside Beauty Guide

So I can now officially say it/ *singing it in my head*, it’s Summer time and the weather is fine! Well most of the time anyway, lets not speak too soon eh’. Whether you’re off to a pool somewhere, a beach, or just your local park, beauty in the summer heat is quite different to your everyday routine. First and foremost;

Now this one is a biggie and definitely not one to be overlooked, you need to wear suncream. Let’s face it, the alternative; getting burnt and peeling is not pretty, and no one wants to be the Lobster in the room. Agreed? Whilst the world of suncream is a minefield of grey areas (post coming soon!) the best option is to go for at least a factor 30 SPF, and always buy broad spectrum, as this will cover you against UVA and UVB rays. The lazy gal in me still loves anything in a spray can, so I currently use Targets own sports sunscreen, and a slick of Neutrogena on my face.

Face: If you can’t face being a bare faced bathing beauty, forget your normal foundation and powder and reach for a BB cream, or a mineral powder instead. This will tone down any shine your aforementioned sunscreen will give you, and give a little extra protection whilst concealing imperfections. I currently use the Dr Jart Water Fuse Smart Gel BB, but this does leave your skin super shiny, so I powder with a little Mac Mineralize in Skinfinish Natural. If BB cream isn’t your thing, go for a powder with sunscreen in it, this will keep shine at bay and your skin protected from burning and aging. I’ve heard great things about this one from Chantecaille that you can check out here.

Eyes:Heat, sweat, humidity, and water don’t mix well with mascara, so don’t even think about reaching for one unless its water proof. Curl those lashes and put on a slick of bright colored mascara. I love bright lashes in summer, as it brings a flash of color to an otherwise bare face. If you’re a back to black kinda girl reach for Mac Splashproof Lash in Blacksplash or experiment with blue and swipe on Barry M, Sky Blue Lengthening Mascara.

Lips: Don’t forget to pack yourself a lip balm, as lips burn too you know! Ideally grab one with SPF as this will preventing burning, and keep your lips smooth all day.  I also love a bright lip in summer to match my bright lashes! It’s minimal make-up that packs a punch:) My current favorite sheer bright is Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 040 RendezVous  If I don’t go for a sheer balm stain, than I’m a gloss girl, my favourite being a beautiful pink shade called Bubble Gum from Cosmetic’s a’ la Carte.

There you have it a complete minimal make-up guide for sun worshipers, and poolside dwellers. Let’s hope the weather lasts!
