When you hear that a make-up product was inspired by Nickelodeon’s “Gak” – a product aimed at kids (or the young at heart) you know I wanna try it. “Gak” is a brightly colored stretchy goo, with no real purpose but to be fun. I don’t even know if we had “Gak” growing up in the UK, but I seem to remember something similar, and I liked it.
Whilst the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee’s are undoubtedly a lot more sophisticated than Gak, or goo if you will; I would say the only real similarities are the bright fun colors. The shades that these lovely cheek stains come in, are vibrant and fun.
The Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee’s are very sheer, but extremely blendable, and you can build up the color by applying more product with your fingers, or a brush. Being a committed lover of cheek stains in general, I was pretty confident that I would love this product and I was right.
This hybrid of a cheek stain / cream blush is infused with 50% pure coconut water, with the added skin boosting benefits of vitamin E rich Argan oil. It’s cooling on the skin, and seamlessly smooth to apply, giving you a finish that looks as if the color is coming from within your own skin, rather than a make-up product sitting on top of it. Whilst it’s not gooey or stretchy *sad face* it’s still a fun product to use. The Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee’s currently come in 6 shades, and I bagged myself Pink Escape for $22, but I’ve got my eye on Coral Oasis, and Honeymoon Honey. Watch out Josie, I’m coming for the entire range of these!
Sadly Josie Maran isn’t available in the UK (yet!) but I hear the closest thing to these you can buy are the Estee Lauder pure color Cello Shots. I haven’t tried them, so I personally can’t vouch for their similarity, but if you need to bag a gel blush like NOW these are your best bet. No need to reach for the Gak just yet.
