I love a dark plum inspired lip in winter, but in summer it has to be something bright and fun. I’ve always thought you have to change your make-up according to the light *complicated stuff* and when it’s nice and sunny, you need to re-think the make-up bag, and get thee a slick of something bright! Plus, I just don’t think anyone appreciates a bright orange or hot pink lip in the depths of winter. It’s sad. So.. how do I wear this bright lip, I hear you cry?! Well, the golden rule is to keep everything else super subtle, and super simple. Think dewy flawless skin, a touch of color on the cheeks and paired down eyes. I’m thinking just a wash of gold or taupe, and a slick of black mascara of course.
Top tips for wearing bright lipstick;
- First apply lip balm to prepare the lips, and make sure they’re flake free
- To prevent feathering or bleeding, use a wax liner like the this one from Too Faced
- Or, line lips with a similar color to the lipstick, filling in the center of the lips
- Use a lip brush to carefully apply the color
- Make your lipstick last longer by applying LipCote
My current top four Mac faves are;
Morange; Scarily I had this on my shopping list to buy, then I realized I already own it, just didn’t know the name. Shocking. This is bright but still wearable, more of a burnt orange, its creamy, moisturizing and super pigmented.
Costa Chica: Is a great one if you want to take the plunge into the world of brights, as it’s more of a vibrant coral. This is a cross between a bright orange and a creamy pink. I’m not convinced this looks good with my tanned skin right now, but for paler days I’ll be reaching for this baby.
Utter Fun: Is just that. Sparkly, highly pigmented, deeply bright pink offering, that’s not too far off the red family. I think this color would look good on everyone.
Girl About Town: This one is my ultimate favorite bright lipstick. It’s fun to wear, different, and more youthful and vibrant than your classic reds. A vibrant purple with pinky tones, but not too loud to make it unwearable. This lipstick seems to light up your entire face, and when layered with a Mac dazzle glass, it looks incredible.
