If the ‘ombre’ boat passed you by, fear not there’s a hot new hair trend alert that’s pretty, effortless and oh so easy to maintain and I’ve got you all the insider info on this new look – straight from LA. Ladies, let me introduce you to the ‘sombre.’ So what is this new style you cry? Well, the oh so gorgeous Anja Burton aka.Hollywood celebrity colourist has brought over this beautiful look from across the pond and Neville salon has snapped her up to share her wisdom and skills.
Fun fact: Anja was the only person in the world that had started to use the, now distinctive, ombré technique, which was first noticed on her client Drew Barrymore. Anja has now evolved this look to create the sombre – a beautiful, softer version of the ombre. I went along to Neville salon to have a chat with the celeb hair guru and talk all things hair and Hollywood!
Time to dish… who are your celeb clients and are they hard to work with?
Rachel McAdams, Drew Barrymore,Erin Wasson, Khloe Kardashian, Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Aniston, Amy Adams, Molly Sims, Michelle Williams, Liv Tyler, & Ellie Goulding among many others! They’re all lovely to work with! I’m very patient and I want to make sure every client leaves the salon happy, so I take the time to work with everyone to insure they love their colour.
Is the sombre low maintenance?
Absolutely! It’s soft on the ends and we work with the clients natural colour. It’s subtle and pretty, but can also be adapted to fit your style. If you don’t have re-growth we can create it with colour and if you do we can blend the colours and make the ends lighter, but in a much more natural way than the ombre.
Can you still wear your hair up?
If you wear your hair up a lot we will apply a ‘halo’ of colour around the face. This will create a light, softer more sun-kissed look when your hair is pulled back.
What’s the LA style in terms of hair?
Girls in LA love to experiment with their hair. Besides the sombre, LA girls love soft grey tones, pink tones and rainbow colours. Those who love the ombre are going for a much softer, blended and less severe version. Gentle, multidimensional colour is going to be on trend for the coming seasons.
What’s your best tip for maintaining colour?
Buy a vinegar wash and use it to clarify your hair and preserve the colour for as long as possible, leaving it silky and shiny.
