Let’s say your going on a big date on Valentines day. Firstly, well done you. Secondly, you don’t want to scare the poor lad away with a smoky eye, big ol’ false lashes, or a bright red lip. There’s a time and a place for all that fun stuff, but I think date night isn’t really it. Personally, I think dates are all about keeping it simple. I’m not saying no make-up. That would just be silly. I’m just saying keep it simple. There’s nothing worse than spending hours perfecting a dramatic look, and then feeling oh so uncomfortable sporting it, because you just don’t look like yourself. Work your way up to dramatic looks. Obviously if you’re a pro, keep doing what you do gurl, if not, I have a look for you that’s quick, easy and is pretty without being too try hard. Plus it will suit everyone. Really.
Face: Apply a foundation or BB cream that gives your skin a nice luminous glow. I decided to keep it simple and natural by using my Dior BB Creme in 002. I’m finally pale enough to use it, and if offers up a nice subtle glow to the skin without acting like a mask. Conceal under eye bags, and blemishes by dabbing on a concealer.
Blush: Nothing says Romance like pink flushed cheeks. I used Milani Baked Blush in 08 – Coralina. I didn’t used to like this blush before, as it has quite big flecks of glitter, but if you keep everything else fairly natural, on you’re not in really bright light, it works.
Eyes: Always apply a primer on to your eyelids, to give the eyeshadow something to stick to, and make the colors as vibrant and long lasting as possible. My favourites are Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion, and Mac’s paint pot in painterly. I then applied Naked from the Urban Decay original Naked palette, and then applied Sidecar directly on top. Layering eyeshadow creates a new dimension, and hue to your normal colors. Don’t forget to apply lashings of mascara to create some alluring looking peepers!
Lips: I like using red lipstick as it bring some much needed color and life to the face in the dull winter months, but full on matte red can be intimidating. To keep things simple, I dabbed on Mac’s Dubonnet lipstick with a very light hand, and then smudged it in with my finger. This is a very ‘care free’ easy way to wear red, that creates an effortless, pretty look.
