Is it just me or are we never happy with the weather? Unless it’s sunny and warm that is. I think it’s pretty safe to say that winter has officially arrived in the UK. Gone are the weird balmy ‘winter’ temperatures (that let’s be fair, could have passed for a bad June) and now we have chilly, chilly days. So much so, that it’s really time to start winter proofing your skin… otherwise chapped hands and Rudolph red noses await you – and that’s not a good look on anyone.
I’ve rounded up the 6 skincare products you need to winter proof your skin, so that it stays soft and peachy during these pretty arctic couple of weeks.
Winter proof your skin!
Your lips are just as susceptible to extreme weather as skin anywhere else on your body and we all know that lipstick and flaky lips ruin a great look. Keep a highly hydrating moisturiser in your bag at all times and apply continuously throught the day. I love the dr.Organic Morocan Argan Oil as it’s packed with nourishing ingredients and it’s smells good enough to eat. Don’t though.
It goes without saying that you should use a moisturiser everyday, but in the winter you’ll need one that’s really going to work for you. I love the rich Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate which is packed with nourishing, skin plumping ingredients. The one I have also has a cute little lip balm at the end which is perfect to pop in your hand bag to keep dry skin at bay during the day. It’s also great for long journeys! It’s also fab for applying before your make-up as a primer for foundation.
3. Hyaluronic Acid
Okay so if you haven’t heard about this wonder ingredient you need to get clued up sharpish! In a nutshell, hyaluronic acid holds up to 1000 x it’s weight in water, so any moisturiser you put on after this is going to work even harder to keep your skin hydrated. I personally love the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair as not only does it have hyaluronic acid in it, it’s also crammed with other ingredients that help fight the signs of aging so your skin will look smoother and more radiant and winter skin will be kept under wraps.
4. Cream Cleansers
Ditch the bubbles, as your skin will already feel stressed and tighter due to the colder weather. Don’t strip your complexion, nourish it instead with creamy cleansers. I love using the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanse and polish as it makes my skin super soft, cleansed, gently exfoliated and radiant.
5. Sleeping Mask
When winter rolls around you need to up the moisture levels whenever possible to keep your skin supple, hydrated and calm. Cold weather makes skin angry, but you can wake up to a silky-soft complexion when you reach for a sleeping mask. Apply at night, get your beauty sleep and wake up gorgeous! Me like. There are tons of great sleeping masks out there but I’m particularly loving the Nuxe Creme Fraiche which soothes and nourishes the skin while you sleep.
6. Hand cream
I think we’re all a bit guilty of neglecting our hands, but when winter weather strikes your hands can really take the brunt of the bad weather. I like to keep a hand cream in my bedside table so I’ll always remember to put it on before going to sleep. Pop a hand cream in your handbag and keep your skin soft and winter proof all season long.
