The fate of Ecuador’s participation in the World Cup 2022 hangs in the balance. The fact is that representatives of the Chilean national team are suspected of falsifying the documents of the Ecuadorean player Byron Castillo.
Ecuador risked losing its place in the 2022 World Cup. Chilean lawyers claimed that Byron Castillo is Colombian, and that he is three years older than his documents.

Despite the “iron” evidence of the Chilean national team, FIFA decided in favor of Ecuador. The organization’s official ruling states that after analyzing all the documents submitted by the Federations of Ecuador and Chile, the Disciplinary Committee decided to close the case.
Within ten days, both parties to the scandal can appeal the ruling to the Appeals Committee. In addition, they can file a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
Thus, Ecuador remains on the list of participants in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Ecuadorians are in Group A, along with Qatar, the Netherlands and Senegal.
